Custom Bag: Fold-Over Tote with Crossbody Strap|Water Resistant Lightly Waxed Canvas and Leather|Midnight Blue and Charcoal Grey

This is a custom bag that I made for Andrea in Red Deer, Alberta, Canada.  Andrea contacted me with a specific bag in mind, with very specific requirements. She wanted a tote that she can wear on the shoulder, but the tote would also fold down when she wanted to use it as a messenger bag.

The challenge with this bag is to make the size very functional. Andrea had a specific size in mind and it worked well. My job was to find where is the best height was to place the fold over line. When the bag is folded over, the messenger bag size had to be functional to put all her personal belongings. The front pocket placement height was also important because Andrea wanted the tote shoulder straps to be able to tuck in there when not in use.

Andrea wanted to add a front pocket across the bag. The pocket has 2 uses. First, of course, to put her belongings in for easy access. Secondly, she wanted to be able to tuck in the tote shoulder straps when she’s using it as a crossbody bag and snap the pocket closed (top left).

I usually make the tote shoulder straps with a standard 9.5″ shoulder drop, but Andrea may be taller and wanted an 11″ drop.

She didn’t want the bag to have a top zipper closure, but brass snaps. What I did was use heavy duty snaps for the top of the bag and for the front exterior pocket.

There are 3 inside pockets in this bag. There are 2 slip pockets and a zippered pocket, as requested.

Size: 15″high (12″folded) x 11.5″wide x 3″deep or 38cm high (30.5cm folded) x 19cm wide x 8cm deep

Midnight blue and charcoal grey water resistant waxed canvas. This is a custom colour combination.

Italian vegetable tanned shoulder straps, 11″ shoulder drop

Cowhide crossbody strap. Detachable and adjustable with solid brass slide buckle from from 33″ (84cm) to 63″ (160cm)

3 Interior pockets: 2 slip pockets (big enough to fit iPads and more)  and 1 zippered pocket
