It’s Fall Again and Life Is Getting A Little More Sane

From last Fall to now has been a wild ride. Nol was born last Fall and while we were very happy to have him in our lives, the 1st year of taking care of a baby is hard. When we had Nol, Pax was already 3 years old and things were starting to settle down again. We were sleeping better, my husband and I spent some time together and we were doing fun things with Pax (like travel to New York).

It has been so busy that I haven’t even shared any of the newborn pictures of Nol on the blog until now. This picture was taken when Nol was about 1 month old. He was so nice and compact.

The leaves have fallen in Vancouver and I can’t believe it’s Fall again. Here’s the 1st born, Pax, kicking around the leaves in the hood. I remember going out for a walk like this last year with my family when Nol, our 2nd boy was born.

People ask if it’s easier the 2nd time around and the answer is yes and then no. It was easier because we knew what to expect, like grouchy=nap time, he’s teething, he’s hungry, what to feed him when he starts to eat solid foods at 6 months old. The difficult part is that now you’re handling 2 little people. While my husband and I were running on very little sleep, we still had an energetic 3 year old to take care of. The beginning was hard because the baby needed us 24/7 and Pax didn’t get the attention he had before. Luckily for us, Pax really likes having a baby brother. He just doesn’t understand why we can’t do all the things we used to.

This Fall is pretty significant for me. Nol turned 1 and things are starting to get a little more sane. My husband and I are pretty proud of ourselves for surviving the 1st year another time. It’s the most rewarding, but demanding job there is.

I went back to work when Nol was 6 months old. When you run your own micro-business, there isn’t anyone else that can take over. I was really fortunate to have really nice customers who were willing to wait for me to come back to work to get their bags made.

My husband took this photo of Nol at the hospital. This was his very first bath given by a nursing student. He was born with a full head of hair, which surprised us. I just love this picture.

Now here he is at 1. He likes to crawl into the studio and climb up to the chair that I have in here. This chair has become the little hang out for him and his brother.

Recently, he started to sleep better. For new parents, you may be asking, “What does that mean?” Well, I don’t want to jinx it, but he slept 2 nights straight this week (8 hrs). Most of the time he still wakes up at least once, but he will sleep 3-4 hours at a time.

This is my favourite photo of the boys from the summer. All my time is now devoted to taking care of them and to work. There’s not much time for anything else. Slowly, life will return to normal again. My husband and I are looking forward to the boys playing with each other more and for us to be able to watch something together at night time after they sleep (thank goodness for Netflix!).
